What we do

Six services. Plain words. Honest deliverables.

We don't sell software, we don't sell a methodology with a trademark symbol, and we don't believe every business needs a 60-slide deck. We sell good thinking, written down, that you can hold in your hands.

Our approach

We work with the numbers you already keep.

Most of our clients come to us with QuickBooks, a few spreadsheets, a point-of-sale export, and a story they aren't sure is true. Our job is to take what's already there, fill in only what's missing, and hand back a clear picture of the business.

  1. 01

    Listen first

A long phone call. No slides. We ask what's worrying you and what's working.

  2. 02

    Read the books

Two weeks with your ledger, payroll, POS, and any reports you trust. We come back with questions, not opinions.

  3. 03

    Write it down

A short, signed memo: what we found, what it means, what we'd do in your seat — and what we wouldn't.

  4. 04

    Stay close

Monthly or quarterly check-ins so the work keeps living after the engagement ends.

A recent engagement

A 42-year-old hardware store in northern New Jersey, quietly losing margin on its busiest aisle.

The owner — third generation, no MBA, runs the floor most Saturdays — knew something was off. Sales were up six percent year over year, but he was taking home less. His accountant said everything was "within range."

Over three weeks we pulled four years of POS data, supplier invoices, and the staffing schedule. We didn't find one big problem. We found seven small ones, and the largest sat on the fastener wall: a vendor price increase in 2023 that had never been passed through to the shelf.

We handed him a 14-page report, a one-page action list for his floor manager, and a shelf-pricing spreadsheet he could update himself. No software. No subscription.

Outcome, 9 months later

  • Gross margin recovered from 31.4% to 36.2%
  • $84,000 estimated annualized profit improvement
  • Two slow-turning SKU lines retired with vendor credit
  • Owner now reviews a one-page report every Monday morning

In their own words

Quiet praise from owner-operators.

"Brian's team did in three weeks what two big consulting firms couldn't do in nine months. They wrote it down in English, and we used it."
Linda H., owner, third-generation hardware retailer — Bergen County, NJ
"What I liked is that they pushed back on me. They told me which of my ideas were good and which ones were going to cost me money. That's worth a lot."
Marcus T., founder of a 28-truck logistics operation — Newark, NJ
"I've worked with consultants my whole career. Onward is the first one I'd send my brother to."
Dr. P. Halverson, multi-site dental practice — Westfield, NJ
